On-Site Mental Health Benefits

It all started when…

ISB hosts one-on-one psychotherapy and psychological counseling sessions with western-trained therapists on-site.

The sessions will be available to both students and staff, with 5 sessions available to students and 4 to staff each time. The student sessions are being arranged in conjunction with the counselors' office and we are extremely excited to be making this much-needed service available to our student population.

Two introductory workshops on understanding and reducing the stigma of mental health will occur on Wednesday February 20th and Wednesday February 27th. The first session is in English and the second in English & Chinese. These workshops are open to everyone in the ISB community to learn and have opportunities to ask questions about mental health care.

Details for the two therapists, who will be on-site on an alternating, bi-weekly basis.

ISB deliberately wanted to work with therapists that could meet the needs of our diverse group of students and faculty, in terms of hosting both a male and female therapist, that can see patients in English (Dr. Cope) and in Chinese (Mary Chan is fluent in English and Chinese).

ISB has partnered with Raffles Medical for this important service as they have some of the best western-trained mental health professionals in Beijing and a strong reputation for meeting the needs of international schools (students and faculty).

How often will they be coming to ISB? Initially the sessions will be held every two weeks but we are hoping to increase this frequency according to need. We expect demand to be strong and are therefore expecting to be increasing the frequency to weekly as soon as possible. Sessions for staff will be held in  the afternoons and will last 40 minutes.

How do I book a session? For employees, the coordination of the booking will be handled online to ensure confidentiality. Our medical insurance broker One World Cover will be managing this service for us. Once you have "booked" an appointment online they will get in contact to re-confirm the date and time in a reminder email a few days before your session. When you book a session it should be automatically added to your work calendar -- double check to make sure. It is extremely important to be punctual for sessions once booked. We will be sharing in the coming days the details and link to book the sessions for the first visit from Dr. Cope on February 27th.

Where will the sessions take place? In Room 2810 - the Facilities Conference Room behind the Upper Gallery. This room has been chosen for its discreet location; convenient yet out of sight. It is possible to get to or leave this area via the back staircase (behind the Mail Room).

How much do the sessions cost? RMB 1,590. We will be sharing details soon on how you can make payment, in the email to follow in coming days together with the link to book sessions.

Can I claim the sessions with Cigna? Yes, but only on a pay and claim basis. Once you have made payment, Raffles Medical will send you a fapiao within a few days of you seeing the therapist. Once you have the fapiao, for claims under RMB 3,000, you can submit the claim to Cigna by email (cignacmb@cigna.com) sending a scanned copy of the fapiao, medical report (or arrange for the therapist to complete section D of the Cigna claim form) and claim form. Reimbursement can only be made to your China bank account. The sessions cannot be claimed under the Ping An Health plan.

Find out even more:  Attend one of the two introductory workshops: in English on February 20th with Dr. Cope, and in English & Chinese (based on audience needs) on February 27th with Mary Chan. There will be a separate announcement coming out about these introductory workshops/seminars soon. They will take place after school, from about 3:30 to 4:30 pm, in the MPR.
